Supporters of Kaizer Chiefs will not be able to watch their team’s CAF Confederation Cup match against AS Simba on 18 October 2025 in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. The host team failed to secure broadcast rights, making it impossible for the game to be televised in South Africa.
What Happened
Kaizer Chiefs confirmed that the CAF clash scheduled for Saturday, 18 October 2025, will not be broadcast live on television. This is due to AS Simba’s inability to finalise broadcasting agreements with local partners in the DRC, which prevents the feed from being shared internationally.
“As the visiting team, Chiefs rely on the host broadcaster’s feed to relay the match to our partners in South Africa, as was done in the previous round in Angola,” the club explained.
Official Response
The club expressed regret over the situation and apologized to fans, stating that the issue lies outside their control. In the absence of a live broadcast, Kaizer Chiefs has committed to keeping fans informed via their digital platforms.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but this matter is beyond our control,” the club said in a statement.
Fans are encouraged to follow updates on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram during the match.
Community Impact
The announcement has disappointed many Chiefs supporters who were hoping to watch the crucial away fixture. While there is frustration over the lack of access, some fans appreciated the club’s communication and efforts to provide live updates through digital means.
This is not the first time a CAF match has faced broadcast hurdles in certain host countries, raising ongoing concerns about access for fans across the continent.
