LATE DRAMA AS CHIEFS STUTTER AT HOME AGAINST THE CHAMPIONS

Date:

In a game that was a dead rubber for runaway 12 times champions, Mamelodi Sundowns it was the home team who had everything to lose. The game started off with both teams creating half chances but with nothing to show as they went to half-time. While the reigning champions had nothing to play for it was the Phefeni Glamor Boys who were playing for that seemingly illusive CAF Champions League sport.

Things heated up in the second stanza of the game as Aubrey Modiba hit a volley that left Kaizer Chiefs’ shot-stopper, Bruce Bvuma helpless in the early stage of the second half after Amakhosi were caught sleeping in their own half on a turnover. The game was slow for the larger part of the game with a glimpse of end-to-end attacks in between as the Brazilian seemed to manage the game in a bid to protect their lead. It was another spectacular first-time volley from Phathusedzo Nange that kept the hopes alive for the home side before a missed penalty from Dolly after Sekgota was brought down in the box by Divine Lunga. The Serbian assassin, Samir Nurkovic missed three glorious chances that also proves to be detrimental to the Chiefs’ bid to play in Africa next season.
