The Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) has launched an intensified revenue collection drive in Komani, led by Executive Mayor Lisanda Sizani. The campaign aims to improve municipal revenue by encouraging residents and businesses with outstanding accounts to settle their debts.
What Happened?
On 10 November 2025 Mayor Sizani joined CHDM teams as they distributed 14-day notices to households and business owners who owe the municipality. The campaign forms part of the Revenue Collection Enhancement Program, which seeks to strengthen financial sustainability and improve service delivery across the district.
Alongside the notice distribution, the municipality also continued its water disconnection operations targeting customers who failed to respond to final demand letters. The initiative underscores CHDM’s commitment to ensuring that all consumers contribute fairly to the maintenance of essential services.
Official Response
Mayor Lisanda Sizani emphasized the importance of revenue collection in sustaining community services.
“Every cent collected goes back into improving water, sanitation, and infrastructure for our residents. We are appealing to all customers to come forward and make payment arrangements,” she said.
The mayor also emphasized that the campaign is not punitive but aims to promote responsibility and partnership between the municipality and its ratepayers.
Community Impact
The drive has prompted mixed reactions among residents — while some support the effort to stabilize municipal finances, others have raised concerns about affordability during tough economic conditions.
CHDM officials assured the public that indigent households can apply for support under the municipality’s social relief policy, while flexible payment plans remain available for qualifying customers.
The campaign is expected to improve revenue collection efficiency, allowing the municipality to continue investing in essential community projects.
