The CEO of Eskom has resigned.
This follows after De Ruyters received public backlash during the previous week from Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe and Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan.
De Ruyters has been in office since December 2019.
He refused to comment on the issue.
Many had quite a lot to say in regard to his resignation stating that it took a lot of load-shedding for him to come to this conclusion. 2022 Remains the year that experienced load shedding the most
“It took over 192 720 minutes of loadshedding in 2022 for de Ruyters to call it quits,” they said.
Former Eskom Chief Executive had a handful to share after the news of De Ruyters broke out to the public. He tweeted that now that De Ruyters has resigned the power utility will be able to stop load shedding in the next 12 months, reported IOL News.
“I firmly believe that Eskom’s maintenance effort, coupled with operations discipline can stop load shedding in 6 to 12 months” he tweeted.
While Koko shared his remarks with his followers Former Head of Statistics South Africa Dr. Pali Lehohla stated that he previously suggested that De Ruyters should be replaced with an engineer.
“Eskom is an engineering- cum- economic behemoth. It is an engineering animal and an economic animal. At the moment, it is not led by engineers, nor by economists. So, you canot expect it to perform. Instead, it is led by politicians and accountants and they are trying to understand the logic of Eskom”, he said.
