Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, as well as Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, has urged all sectors of society to join forces in building a truly inclusive South Africa. She called for greater efforts to ensure that people with disabilities participate fully and equally in every sphere of life.
What Happened
Minister Chikunga delivered her message during the launch of Disability Rights Awareness Month (DRAM) 2025 at the Supported Employment Enterprise (SEE) Factory in Kimberley, Northern Cape.
This year’s theme, “Celebrating 30 Years of Democracy: Creating Strategic Multisectoral Partnerships for a Disability-Inclusive Society,” illustrates the importance of cooperation between government, business, academia, and communities to break down barriers that still marginalize people with disabilities.
She noted that inclusion is not just a goal but a shared responsibility requiring action across all sectors.
Official Response
Minister Chikunga praised the SEE Factory for its practical demonstration of inclusion.
“The SEE Factory stands as living proof that inclusion is possible where persons with disabilities are not spectators in the economy but skilled workers, producers, and innovators,” she said.
She added that the factory demonstrates what can be achieved when the state, private sector, academia, as well as civil society collaborate to transform ability into opportunity and opportunity into dignity.
Community Impact
The Minister’s call aims to inspire coordinated action across South Africa, ensuring that people with disabilities have equal access to employment, education, and social participation.
Her message reinforces the government’s commitment to creating inclusive policies and removing barriers that limit participation. As the country marks 30 years of democracy, the emphasis on equality and empowerment remains central to building a fairer society.
