The Executive Mayor of Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, Princess Faku, visited Unathi High School in Cambridge, East London to motivate the Matric Class of 2025.

She was joined by Eastern Cape Education MEC, Fundile Gade, Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr Reginah Mhaule, and senior officials from the education department. The visit was a show of unity, stating that the success of learners depends on shared commitment from government, schools, and families.

“We are deeply honoured to have with us the MEC for Education, Mr. Fundile Gade, and the Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr Mhaule, who have come to demonstrate that the future of our young people is a shared responsibility across all spheres of government,” said Mayor Faku.

Addressing learners, she described matric as one of the toughest yet most rewarding years in a student’s life. She encouraged the Class of 2025 to apply for university intake and reminded them about the Mayoral bursary opportunities available.

“We need distinctions from this class; all of you must get the best results,” she urged.

The Mayor also acknowledged the role of parents and teachers, stressing that education is a collective effort. “Education is not a journey walked alone; it is a collective effort. This visit is also about raising awareness of the importance of foundational learning and preparing for the future.”

The visit left learners inspired to push for academic excellence while receiving encouragement from leaders at local, provincial, and national levels.
