The Eastern Cape DOJ&CD joined an anti-trafficking roadshow at Tele Bridge Border Post to boost efforts against human trafficking along the Lesotho border.
The initiative, held as part of the lead-up to the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July, was led by the Eastern Cape Provincial Trafficking in Persons Task Team (PTT), a key component of the National Intersectoral Committee on Trafficking in Persons (NICTIP).
The campaign focused on raising awareness among cross-border travellers and local communities about the dangers of human trafficking and the services available to victims. Government departments and civil society organisations collaborated to share information and resources aimed at curbing this serious crime.
Participating entities included the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Department of Social Development (DSD), South African Police Service (SAPS), the HAWKS, Border Management Authority (BMA), Rights for Missing People, and other NGOs.
The 2025 roadshow highlighted the need for cross-border cooperation, advanced investigative strategies, and modern technology to dismantle trafficking syndicates. It also stressed the importance of protecting victims and upholding their right to justice.
The event supports this year’s global theme: “Human Trafficking is Organised Crime – End the Exploitation.”
World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed annually on 30 July to honour victims, raise awareness, and promote action against this global crime.
