Bophelong, Gauteng – Rising literary talent and youth leader Tshepang Mkhwanazi continues to shine on national and international stages, having recently received the Civil Society Award at the Young Leaders Awards held at the Encore Theatre in Pretoria on Saturday, 29 March 2025.
The multi-award-winning author, motivational speaker, and mentor received the nomination on 15 February 2025 and was crowned a winner just over a month later. Known for his dynamic community work, Mkhwanazi is the founder of the Motho Ka Batho Literary Project, which supports learners in Bophelong by nurturing their reading, writing, and storytelling skills—particularly in indigenous languages.
“Dynamite comes in small packages,” says a supporter of the teen philanthropist, who has become a beacon of hope and creativity in his community.
Beyond his literary contributions, Mkhwanazi also runs an aftercare programme, helping local learners with homework, reading, and foundational language skills. His talents span far and wide: he is a poet, scriptwriter, digital marketer, mentor, and an upcoming actor.
His growing recognition includes two nominations at the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards for Best Writer and Best Arts and Crafts, and two more at the South African Literature and Creative Arts Awards for Best Writer and Best Scriptwriter. He is also featured in the internationally circulated Publish’d Afrika Magazine, further amplifying his voice on a global scale.
Mkhwanazi’s award is a testament to the impact of youth-driven change, and his story continues to inspire countless young South Africans to turn passion into purpose.
