Etiphini, Mthatha — In a powerful display of solidarity and commitment to community upliftment, the Black Coffee Foundation, in partnership with the Hollywood Foundation, has launched a transformative initiative aimed at empowering women in the rural community of Etiphini, Mthatha. This life-changing skills development programme, introduced during South Africa’s Women’s Month, seeks to uplift the lives of women in one of the country’s most impoverished areas.
Founded by internationally acclaimed DJ and philanthropist, Mr. Nkosinathi “Black Coffee” Maphumulo, the Black Coffee Foundation has a history of advocating for the underprivileged. The Foundation recently identified a group of women in Etiphini who have been relying on scavenging at dumping sites to survive. Deeply moved by their struggle, Mr. Maphumulo and his team reached out to the Hollywood Foundation to collaborate on sustainable development projects that could bring lasting change to the area.
The first phase of this initiative will be marked by a significant event on August 28, 2024, when the Hollywood Foundation will officially hand over sewing machinery to the women of Etiphini. This marks the beginning of a comprehensive skills development programme, designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to equip these women with the skills necessary for long-term economic independence.
This collaboration is more than just a charitable act; it represents a commitment to fostering sustainable development and addressing the systemic challenges faced by rural women in South Africa. The project is expected to create a ripple effect, inspiring further development initiatives within Mthatha and beyond.
Members of the media are invited to witness this momentous occasion and document the start of a journey that promises to change lives. The event will feature opportunities for interviews with key figures from both foundations, as well as photo opportunities to capture the impact of this groundbreaking initiative.
