A 37-year-old man from Sakhele locality in Qunu, under the Bityi policing precinct, was arrested on Friday, 10 October 2025, around 12:00, for allegedly murdering a 45-year-old man found dead inside a Toyota Quantum earlier that morning. The shocking incident unfolded during a wedding celebration.
What Happened
According to police, the victim had fallen asleep inside the parked vehicle while intoxicated. The suspect allegedly used a shoelace to strangle him, leaving him dead in the early hours of the morning. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased’s personal belongings were later found in the suspect’s possession. Police say the man admitted that the killing was an act of revenge, claiming the deceased had previously stabbed him, but he survived.
Official Response
Police confirmed that the 37-year-old suspect, who is mute and communicates through a sign language interpreter, was arrested shortly after the incident. He has since appeared before the Bityi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 October 2025, facing a charge of murder.
