The picturesque landscape of Port St. John’s is renowned for its natural beauty, but the true allure of this wild paradise lies not just in its scenic wonders but in the spirit of its people. At the forefront of celebrating the beauty with a purpose is Bomkazi Bofela, the visionary founder of the Miss Port St. John’s Beauty Pageant.
Bofela’s journey began with a simple yet powerful idea – to create a platform that empowers young women within the local community. In 2018, she launched the Miss Port St. John’s Beauty Pageant, a now six-year-old initiative aimed at reshaping perceptions of beauty and fostering self-belief among the region’s young women.
I started this organization in 2018 with the goal of empowering other young women to believe in themselves. We all know that pageantry is not as popular in small towns and villages, which is precisely why the tagline for Miss PSJ is ‘she believed she could, so she did. – shared Bofela.
The Miss Port St. John’s Beauty Pageant goes beyond the traditional notions of beauty, emphasizing qualities such as confidence, resilience, and self-assurance. The annual event has become a beacon of inspiration for local women, challenging stereotypes and encouraging them to embrace their unique qualities.
As the sixth edition of Miss PSJ approaches, the town is gearing up for a night of glamour, talent, and empowerment. The event is scheduled to commence at 16:30 and continue late into the evening on the 29th of December at the Port St. John’s Town Hall.
Tickets for this empowering showcase of beauty and purpose are available for only R70 and can be purchased from any of the enthusiastic contestants. By attending the Miss Port St. John’s Beauty Pageant, community members not only witness a celebration of local talent but actively contribute to the mission of empowering young women in this small town with a big heart.
