Buffalo City Executive Mayor Councilor Princess Faku welcomed Miss South Africa 2025, Qhawekazi Mazaleni, during a special ceremony in East London. The event brought together parents, relatives, and children with autism as honoured guests.
Faku said Mazaleni’s visit reflects pride, unity, and a shared commitment to uplifting young people.
“Your presence represents far more than grace and beauty. It is a celebration of excellence, youth empowerment, and purposeful leadership,” she said.
She added that the Metro is proud to have Mazaleni carrying the Eastern Cape’s legacy onto the global stage.
“We are blessed to have you as one of our esteemed ambassadors. The Eastern Cape is a home of legends, and adding your name to that legacy means a great deal to our people.”
Commitment to Children with Autism
The Executive Mayor used the platform to reaffirm BCMM’s dedication to supporting children living with autism and their families. She thanked Mazaleni for her advocacy work and for championing disability inclusion.
“We are committed to building a society where every child matters and where no one is left behind,” Faku said.
She noted that children with autism bring unique talents and perspectives, yet many face challenges such as limited access to specialized education, therapy, and community understanding.
BCMM continues to work with specialized schools, community organizations and caregivers to provide safe and supportive environments for children with disabilities.
A Visit That Inspires Inclusion
Faku described Mazaleni’s visit as a powerful message of compassion and inclusion.
“As Buffalo City Metro, we are delighted to host you and showcase our hospitality, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant spirit,” she said.
She added that the visit marks a proud moment for the municipality as it honours Mazaleni’s achievements and the positive influence she holds nationwide.
“On behalf of the Council, the administration, and the people of Buffalo City, we extend our warmest welcome. May your visit inspire our communities and reaffirm our collective commitment to empower every child.”
