Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor Princess Faku unveiled six new law enforcement vans on 5 November 2025 at the East London Esplanade. The vehicles will strengthen the Metro’s Law Enforcement Department as it prepares for the Safer Festive Season Campaign, scheduled for 28 November 2025.
What Happened
Mayor Faku handed over six new vans valued at R3.3 million, showing another major investment in public safety. Portfolio Head for Public Safety and Emergency Services, Councillor Amanda Mnyete, urged officials to use the vehicles responsibly and to prioritise service delivery.
The new fleet adds to previous investments, including seven high-speed GTIs purchased in October 2023 at a cost of R7 million. A further R4.8 million has been approved for the 2025/26 financial year to replace decommissioned or auctioned vehicles.
Faku said the additions form part of a sustainable plan to strengthen by-law enforcement, crime prevention, and traffic management across the Metro.
Official Response
Mayor Faku praised law enforcement officers for their role in keeping Buffalo City safe.
“These vehicles are not just tools, they are instruments that enhance our officers’ ability to serve, protect, and respond swiftly, With these resources comes great responsibility. Use them wisely and with integrity,” she said.
She also emphasised community partnership: “Public safety is a shared responsibility. We call on residents to work with our law enforcement teams, report crime, and help us protect our public spaces.”
Councillor Mnyete added that officials must safeguard municipal assets and ensure the vehicles support service delivery.
Community Impact
The new vans will improve response times and strengthen visibility. They will also enhance operations in East London, Mdantsane, Qonce, and rural areas. BCMM’s Law Enforcement teams work daily with internal departments, ratepayers’ associations, and SAPS. Together, they maintain order and protect municipal assets. The vehicles will boost readiness for the festive season and support efforts to build a safer, more secure Metro.
