Siviwe Vatsha, a 22-year-old football talent from Ward 25 of Ingquza Hill Municipality, is currently in Spain for trials with a prominent club. Vatsha, who hails from Mkamela, a village near the nearly completed Msikaba Bridge along the Wild Coast Toll Road, has worked tirelessly to pursue his dream of playing professional football abroad.
Vatsha’s early schooling took place in both the Eastern Cape and Durban, where his family resided. His passion for football was evident from a young age, leading him to play in the SAB League with Young Cavaliers FC throughout his school years. After completing Grade 12 at Fairvale Secondary School, he joined Lamontville Golden Arrows in the SAB League in 2020.
Seeking further opportunities, Vatsha moved to Johannesburg in an attempt to enroll at the University of Johannesburg. Although he was not admitted, he secured trials with Highlands Park in the Vodacom League, where he played for the Under-19 team for seven months. His journey then led him to the NFD side Black Leopards in 2022, which signed him for Mpheni Home Defenders in Limpopo.
In 2023, Vatsha also had a trial stint in Dubai. Reflecting on that experience, he stated, “I had a stay for four months, but the focus there was more on physicality than talent, so things didn’t work out. I had to keep pushing until this opportunity came.”
This year, the same agent who facilitated his Dubai trials secured his current opportunity in Spain. Vatsha, along with fellow South African footballer Khwezi Rula, has already spent two weeks training with a Spanish club.
“I am very excited to have this golden opportunity. I will show all my best abilities so that I represent my country abroad,” said Vatsha.
Should he secure a contract in Spain, Vatsha is determined to give back to his home municipality and support youth development programs. The young defensive midfielder is hopeful that his efforts will inspire and uplift aspiring footballers in Ingquza Hill.
The newspaper and its staff wish both Vatsha and Rula all the best as they chase their professional dreams on the international stage.
