Furious ward 9 residents at Nqabeni village under Winnie Madikizela-Mandela local municipality (WMMLM) have again embarked on a protest on Tuesday morning and blocked the road between Magusheni and Bizana, demanding answers from the municipality regarding public services.
One of the ward 9 residents says they have been patient with the municipality for far too long now, getting empty promises for years.
‘We are tired, we are demanding access to clean water, RDP houses that we were promised, road maintenance and Pit toilets that were to be built in this ward back in 2006”, they say.
2 weeks later, still no response from both, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela local municipality and the Alfred Nzo district municipality. Last week the residents embarked on a protest demanding to speak to the district mayor Cllr Vukile Mhlelembana but until today the mayor haven’t visited the village to hear the outcry of these residents.
The residents said they will not leave the road in Magusheni until the mayor of Winnie Madikizela Mandela local municipality Cllr Daniswa Mafumbatha and the executive mayor of Alfred Nzo district municipality Cllr Vukile Mhlelembana come, to respond to their complaints.
Meanwhile, Ward 9 councilor Lungiswa Nomazele says the residents want their services and they say they have been deceived by their municipality. Adding that the main thing that made residents even more angered was seeing the municipality and the executive in their village visiting their traditional leaders, but not responding to them.
Meanwhile, Winnie Madikizela Mandela-Mandela local municipality spokesperson Thamsanqa Cwibi says as the municipality they were not aware of these complaints but will attend to them.
