What Happened
The African National Congress (ANC) has introduced a 10-Point Economic Action Plan to accelerate inclusive growth and job creation. The plan was released as part of the party’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy, improve state capacity, and empower small businesses.
The initiative focuses on ten core interventions from using electricity tariffs to drive industrial activity, rebuilding mining sectors, and boosting local infrastructure investment, to supporting small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs).
Official Response
According to the ANC, the plan seeks to “rebuild the productive base of the economy and ensure that every province contributes to national growth.”
The priorities include:
- Strengthening energy transmission and logistics systems.
- Rebuilding chrome and manganese industries.
- Expanding SMME financing through development institutions.
- Promoting labour activation and public employment.
- Enhancing budget discipline and macroeconomic coordination.
Party officials added that these actions are aligned with the goals of the Freedom Charter and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Community Impact
Economists and local business leaders have welcomed the emphasis on provincial economic growth and local infrastructure investment. Communities in rural areas are expected to benefit through improved access to jobs and business opportunities.
“This plan can revive struggling municipalities if properly implemented,” said one local economic development practitioner. “It’s about making the economy work for everyone.”
