The African National Congress (ANC) has officially submitted its National and Provincial candidate lists for the 2024 National and Provincial Elections through the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) online candidate nomination system (OCNS), adhering to the Electoral Timetable’s guidelines.
In a statement issued by the ANC, the party expressed appreciation for the significant public interest in its diverse array of candidates, reflecting the rich tapestry of South African society.
However, the ANC noted with concern the circulation of ANC candidate lists on social media platforms, which appear to have originated from the IEC’s online candidate nomination system. The party highlighted this as an unauthorized release of personal information, potentially violating the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
The ANC reiterated its confidence in the IEC’s longstanding commitment to administering free, fair, and credible elections, emphasizing the Commission’s professionalism, impartiality, and integrity in managing confidential information.
Expressing solidarity with the IEC, the ANC pledged its support for any investigative measures undertaken to address the unauthorized disclosure and hold those responsible to account.
The party emphasized its commitment to transparency throughout the nomination process, reaffirming that it would provide updates and insights into the composition of its candidate lists. A scheduled media briefing on Monday, March 11th, will provide further details, with a media alert to follow in due course.
