African National Congress has issued a statement of the final list of nominees for the positions of the officials of the NEC. But ANC Electoral Committee head, Kgalema Motlanthe has reiterated that these nominations are not closed. He said that there is another opportunity for conference delegates to nominate more people when the party meets to elect its leaders in December for it’s 55th National Conference.

“Nominees for the additional 200 NEC will be announced as soon as the votes have been consolidated, audited and all nominees have been vetted have confirmed that their availability for election during the conference.”

According to a statement released by the ANC their records indicate that a total of 3543 out of 3982 branches in good standing have held successful Branch General Meetings that produced the approved results of the nominations for both branch delegates and NEC candidates. This means that 89% of ANC branches have successfully took part in the nomination process and that outdo the 70% threshold required for the National Conference to take place as stated in the ANC constitution.

The Electoral Committee has commended all of its branches for exercising their democratic right and taking part in the aspect of democratic leadership selection system.
