AmaZulu FC vs Sundowns FC - Image File - KickOff

Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their first defeat of the DStv Premiership campaign after going down 1-0 to AmaZulu, who jumped to third spot on Monday night. AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy praised the “bravery” of his players as they inflicted a first defeat on runaway DStv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The result lifted Usuthu to third place on the league standings, level with Orlando Pirates in second and 16 points adrift of Sundowns, who tasted defeat for the first time in the Premiership after 17 matches.

“It was super important you know, for everyone who has contributed to his win because like you said it not an individual sport, we always count on every player, once you get the opportunity to play, you’re expected to give everything for the team,” McCarthy told the media.

“They couldn’t penetrate us where they wanted to, Peter Shalulile was restricted and my defenders were on song, everyone was present.”

“Very happy with everyone even the substitutes they came in and made a huge contribution and gave Sundowns their first loss of the season. I guess they will have to wait another season without losing a game and not on my watch while I’m here!”

Augustine Mulenga scored the game’s only goal at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium on Monday night for a hard-fought 1-0 win.
