Amathole fast tracks water upgrades in key rural towns

Amathole District Municipality (ADM) says it is accelerating water and sanitation projects in rural areas across the Eastern Cape. This update was shared during a GCIS Service Delivery Radio Programme by Cllr. Nomonde Geza, speaking on behalf of Executive Mayor Cllr. Anele Ntsangani.

The municipality highlighted its current focus on upgrading infrastructure, maintaining ageing systems, and improving water reliability in towns like Qwaninga, Ngqamakhwe, Elliotdale and Keiskammahoek.

Key Projects and Priorities

ADM listed several ongoing initiatives aimed at long-term water security:

  • Major upgrades to water and sanitation networks
  • Maintenance work on older infrastructure
  • Tackling vandalism, illegal connections, and power supply issues
  • Community mobilisation via the “Zingce | Take Pride” campaign
  • Partnerships with traditional leaders, forums, and local groups
