On 29 September 2025 the Amathole District Municipality (ADM) has officially launched its Annual Report Roadshows, starting at Kei Mouth Town Hall under the Great Kei Local Municipality. The event provided residents with insight into financial management, project implementation, and service delivery for the 2024–2025 financial year.
What Happened
The roadshow was chaired by Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) Chairperson, Councillor Ntsapho Sotshononda. The session gave residents the opportunity to engage directly with ADM leaders, highlighting both successes and concerns.
Presenting on behalf of ADM Executive Mayor, Councillor Anele Ntsangani, the Spatial Planning and Economic Development Portfolio Head, Councillor Xhanti Mngxaso, tabled the unaudited Annual Report, financial statements, and performance reports for 2024–2025.
Projects presented included:
- Chintsa Bulk Services Upgrade and Kei Mouth pipe replacement (completed).
- Great Kei Area Wide Sanitation Phase 2 and Kei Bridge Komga Water Treatment Works (under construction).
- Annabelle pipe replacement and Morgan’s Bay/Igxara Sanitation Project (planned).
- Haga-Haga Water Treatment Upgrade (awaiting funding).
Official Response
Councillor Mngxaso stressed that accountability and transparency remain central to ADM’s governance:
“These roadshows are about listening to the people we serve and demonstrating how public funds are being used to improve infrastructure and service delivery.”
He outlined the role of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) in driving water, sanitation, and development projects across Great Kei.
Community Impact
Residents actively engaged with ADM representatives, raising concerns about indigent registration. Many community members expressed frustration at applying without receiving feedback.
The municipality clarified that indigent support is available to those who are unemployed or reliant on SASSA grants. Officials promised to strengthen communication and improve turnaround times in processing applications.
Local leaders welcomed the roadshows as an important tool for restoring public trust, addressing service delivery backlogs, and ensuring communities have a voice in shaping development.
