On 29 October 2025, the Alfred Nzo District Municipality partnered with the Department of Health to host a Cancer Awareness Day at Mnceba Clinic under the Ntabankulu Local Municipality. The initiative formed part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, focusing on education, prevention, and support for patients and survivors.
What Happened
The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of early cancer detection, regular screenings, and healthy living. Participants received information on cancer symptoms, prevention strategies, and available treatment options. The program also provided on-site health services, including cancer screening, HIV testing, pap smears, dental checkups, eye testing, and mental health support.

Mrs. Thembeka Majova, a retired oncology nurse and volunteer with the Celebrate Life Foundation, stressed the importance of healthy lifestyle choices.
“A person’s diet has a significant impact on their risk of developing cancer,” she said.
Majova further encouraged regular medical checkups, physical exercise, and continued awareness campaigns to reduce cancer risks within communities.
