The Alfred Nzo District Municipality is set to hold a two-day District Development Model (DDM) workshop on 4–5 July 2024 at the Municipal Council Chambers in EmaXesibeni. The workshop will be officially opened by the Executive Mayor of Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Cllr Vukile Mhlelembana.
The event will gather a distinguished group of attendees, including Mayors, Speakers, Chief Whips, Mayoral and Executive Committee Members, and Senior Government Officials from all three spheres of government. Key role players from civil society will also be in attendance.
The primary aim of the workshop is to provide feedback on the adopted DDM One Plan for Alfred Nzo District, as endorsed by the council. The workshop will present a progress report on the implementation of the One Plan by various stakeholders who made commitments towards its execution. Additionally, it will seek new commitments from stakeholders and offer guidance on DDM regulations to steer the work of the DDM.
Initiated by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his 2019 Budget Speech and later adopted by Cabinet, the District Development Model aims to bridge the gap between the people and the government. It strengthens the coordination role and capacity at the district level, ensuring joint and collaborative planning at both local and district levels through the development of a unified One Plan.
The Alfred Nzo District’s One Plan has been collaboratively formulated by all three spheres of government, in conjunction with key stakeholders and communities. This integrated planning and delivery approach is supported by credible joint planning efforts to facilitate effective budgeting and implementation. The process will further guide state and private investment within the district.
The workshop promises to be a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to enhance local governance and ensure the seamless delivery of services and development initiatives across the Alfred Nzo District.
