Planning and Economic Development Department handed over equipment, machinery and commodities to various beneficiaries from all four Local Municipalities under the Alfred Nzo District Municipality.

The purpose of this initiative is to curb the high rate of unemployment, poverty and enhance the skills of people within the agricultural and manufacturing sectors.

This is one of the District Municipality’s interventions in developing the district as well as boosting its economy whilst maintaining equality among people.

Attending the handover include stakeholders such as  Alfred Nzo Development Agency (ANDA), Department of Agriculture, Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR),Ntabankulu and Umzimvubu Local Municipalities.

Zola Nondula a benefiary from Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality who has employed six (6) people in her Sheep Shearing Manufacturing Business was delighted to become one of the beneficiaries who received machinery that can perform over a 1000 sheep shearing in one day for her business “I am excited to have received this machinery as it will now simplify the process of sheep shearing” stated Nondula.

“Collectively as government we will frequently visit the sites of beneficiaries to make sure that their projects are operational” said Portfolio Head for Planning and Economic Development Cllr: Banele Qwayede. She further emphasised the importance of empowering women to minimise the high rate of gender based violence (GBV) by supporting and encouraging women in farming to be independent.
