The Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM), working with City Hope Disaster Relief, handed over more than 182 pairs of school shoes to learners at Ncinjane Primary School and Sidanga Primary School under Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality. The handover took place this week as part of government’s ongoing campaign to support education and reduce barriers for disadvantaged families.
WHAT HAPPENED
The initiative was organized by the ANDM Disaster Management Centre in partnership with City Hope Disaster Relief. Over 182 pupils received brand-new school shoes, ensuring that learners from struggling households can attend school with dignity and confidence.
The programme is designed to provide immediate relief while also reinforcing the importance of education as a pathway to a brighter future.
OFFICIAL RESPONSE
The handover was led by Ward Councillor M. Ndovela alongside Alfred Nzo municipal officials. Cllr. Ndovela explained the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting learners:
“Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, and something as simple as a school uniform can restore a child’s dignity and confidence,” said Cllr. Ndovela.
Municipal representatives added that partnerships between government and NGOs remain key to addressing socio-economic challenges in rural communities.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
For families in Greenville, the shoe handover is more than just a donation — it is a symbol of care, dignity, and hope. Community leaders stressed that learners who feel supported are more likely to focus on their studies and succeed in school.
The event also reaffirmed the role of partnerships in building stronger communities, particularly in under-resourced areas where basic needs are often a challenge.
