Economic Development and Service Delivery
Delegates identified critical socio-economic challenges in the region, including youth unemployment, inadequate health care facilities, poor sanitation, and slow water reticulation. The congress called for intensified efforts to tackle these issues and accelerate service delivery. Notable resolutions included advocating for large-scale projects like a smart city in Alfred Nzo and expanding access to electricity and reliable infrastructure.
Focus on Youth Empowerment
The congress reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment by pushing for a generational mix in leadership. It resolved that at least 40% of leadership positions should be occupied by young people, with one young leader among the officials. The delegates also endorsed the re-election of ANC Regional Chairperson Cde Vukile Mhlelembana for a second term, citing his leadership in driving organizational renewal and addressing corruption.
Global and Regional Perspectives
The ANCYL expressed solidarity with global movements advocating for justice, including the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation. Delegates also discussed the international balance of power, emphasizing the need for African nations to leverage relationships with global powers like China while countering Western economic dominance.
Electoral System Reforms
The congress proposed integrating data systems between government institutions and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to streamline voter registration. It also called for increased civic education to combat declining voter turnout among young people and strengthen democratic participation.
Call to Action
In his opening remarks, Provincial Chairperson Cde Vuyo Jali urged the ANCYL to embody the revolutionary spirit of the ANC and maintain its role as a “necessary irritation” to the mother body. He emphasized the importance of self-sacrifice, unity, and dedication to serving the people.
The congress concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to address pressing issues facing the youth and the broader community. With its new leadership and strategic resolutions, the Alfred Nzo ANCYL is poised to lead the charge toward economic freedom and social change.
