The final day of the AEME Earthquake Response Exercise 2025 took place on 4 December in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Participants ended the multi-day exercise with an operational visit to the Rescue SA warehouse, a key facility in South Africa’s national disaster response system.
Delegates Receive Briefing on Rescue SA Capabilities
Rescue SA officials gave a detailed presentation on their operational capabilities, deployment procedures, and support role during emergencies. The briefing stressed how the organisation works with government agencies to coordinate rapid response during natural disasters, including earthquakes, floods, and structural collapses.
Tour Showcases Search-and-Rescue Equipment
Delegates took part in a guided tour of the warehouse. They observed specialised equipment, advanced rescue tools, and the logistical systems that enable quick and organised deployment. Participants also learned how the warehouse maintains readiness to support missions both locally and internationally.
Exercise Strengthens Collaboration and Preparedness
The visit provided valuable real-world insight into the operational demands of disaster management. Officials said the engagement strengthened collaboration among participating teams and improved understanding of coordinated emergency response.
