The ActionSA Women’s Forum has publicly condemned the recent molestation of a 7-year-old girl, referred to as “Cwecwe,” which occurred on the premises of Bergville College in Matatiele. The forum is urging authorities to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
According to reports, the young girl was attacked while waiting for transportation. Initial suspects included the school’s caretaker, principal, and driver. Both the caretaker and driver have been cleared after cooperating with the investigation. However, concerns have arisen as the principal has reportedly refused to provide DNA samples and allegedly attempted to silence the victim’s mother by shifting blame onto her. Additionally, there are allegations that the child may have been drugged into unconsciousness prior to the assault.
The ActionSA Women’s Forum has expressed deep concern that the school’s administration appears to be prioritizing its reputation over cooperating with law enforcement. They emphasize that educational institutions should serve as safe environments for children and not places where they are vulnerable to harm.
ActionSA has a clear policy advocating zero tolerance for gender-based violence (GBV). The party insists that perpetrators must face legal consequences, victims should receive protection and support, and institutions must be held accountable when they fail to safeguard vulnerable individuals. The forum is calling on the Department of Basic Education and law enforcement agencies to ensure full compliance with the investigation and to take decisive action against any individual obstructing justice.
ActionSA remains committed to advocating for a South Africa where every child is safe and protected.
