- Impact of Infrastructure Neglect on Crime and Deterioration: The party pointed out that failure to repurpose public facilities has contributed to increases in crime and urban decline within the city centre.
- Need for Urban Revitalization through Repurposing Buildings: ActionSA advocates for converting abandoned buildings like Telkom Towers into functional assets that benefit local communities, aiding in urban renewal.
ActionSA has expressed serious concern over the state of public infrastructure in Tshwane’s inner city following a joint oversight visit to the abandoned Telkom Towers. The inspection, led by ActionSA MP Malebo Kobe and MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, Councillor Kholofelo Morodi, highlighted how the neglected building has become a symbol of urban decay.
According to ActionSA, the failure to repurpose such facilities has contributed to crime and deterioration in the city centre. The party emphasized that infrastructure remains central to the revival of Tshwane’s inner city and must not be left to collapse.
Councillor Henriette Frohlich, ActionSA Tshwane Caucus Spokesperson, alongside Kobe, stressed that effective cooperation is required between all three spheres of government to prevent further decline. They argued that instead of being left abandoned, buildings like Telkom Towers should be repurposed and utilized for the benefit of surrounding communities.
The oversight visit forms part of ActionSA’s ongoing push for accountability and renewal of public infrastructure. The party reiterated its commitment to ensuring that state-owned buildings are put to productive use, contributing to safer, cleaner, and more functional urban spaces.
