In a landmark celebration of learning and growth, the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) witnessed 375 school administrators graduate with a National Higher Certificate in Accountancy. The ceremony, held on 1 October 2025 at Mosaiek Teatro in Fairland, Randburg, celebrates a turning point in empowering education staff with financial management skills to improve service delivery across the province

Their Story

School administrative clerks are the backbone of daily operations in schools, ensuring budgets, records, and systems run smoothly. Recognising the need to strengthen their skills, the ECDoE enrolled 600 administrators into a two-phase training programme through Regent Business School.

The first group has now graduated, while the second cohort is expected to graduate in March 2026. For many clerks, this achievement is more than a certificate, it represents new opportunities for professional growth, stability, and the chance to make a lasting contribution to the education sector.

The Event/Occasion

The graduation event was attended by senior officials from ECDoE’s Human Resource Management and Development team, including Acting Chief Director Lukhanyo Sidiya, Acting Director Ntandazo Matika, and Deputy Director Luvuyo Mgijima. Together with Regent Business School representatives, they proudly conferred the qualifications.

The qualification, an NQF Level 5, is not only a milestone but also a stepping stone toward further studies in Cost and Management Accounting and Financial Management. For the Department, this initiative is about more than certificates, it is about professionalising public service and building long-term accountability in schools.

Community Reactions

The achievement has been hailed as a victory for education. Colleagues and school leaders across the Eastern Cape applauded the graduates for their commitment to balancing work with studies.

The ECDoE praised the graduates, noting that the programme will contribute to improved financial accountability and, ultimately, clean audits. “Together, we continue to make education fashionable by promoting lifelong learning and supporting our employees to grow their careers and capabilities,” said the HRM&D team in a statement.
