According to SAPS, on the evening of 19 August, around 19:30, a chilling attack unfolded at a local politician’s residence in Sidikidikini, Lubacweni A/A, KwaBhaca. Two rifle-wielding men stormed a local homestead holding three occupants hostage at gunpoint and binding them with cable ties, the victims were also robbed of their cellphones. In a shocking escalation, a third armed suspect joined the initial two, perpetrating a chilling robbery and assault.
It is alleged that the homeowner Mncedisi Gijana (58) arrived at his homestead, only to be confronted by three suspects. What transpired next remains unclear. But multiple gunshots rang out. The three victims who had been held captive managed to break free and made a heart-wrenching discovery of Gijana’s lifeless body in an outside flat, the suspects had made off with a few stolen items, including bank cards, house keys, and a family vehicle, which was later found abandoned a short distance away.
Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Nomthetheleli Mene, expressed strong disapproval of the incident and in response, has established a dedicated provincial task team to identify, locate, and apprehend the individuals suspected of involvement.
These reprehensible acts are utterly deplorable and undermine our efforts to combat violent crimes in the province. In response to this incident, we have assembled a team of experienced investigators who will tirelessly pursue the perpetrators and ensure their prosecution. – stated Mene.
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist with their investigation to contact the police.
The suspects remain at large, and a case has been registered for murder and house robbery, pending further investigation.
