On Christmas day, a 36-year-old nurse that was on duty was brutally murdered by two unknown men at Zithulele Hospital in Mqanduli, Eastern Cape.

It is alleged that the suspects arrived at the hospital around 7 am pretending to be visiting a patient whom they claimed was admitted to the hospital. While they were assisted by the sister-in-charge they saw the deceased, who called saying she knows the patient they are looking for.

The suspects dragged the nurse outside the building before shooting her twice. She was declared dead on the scene and the suspects fled. The matter has been reported to Kwaaiman police station.

MEC for the Department of Health in Eastern Cape Nomakhosazana Meth, condemned the killing urging the police to do everything in their power to arrest the suspects.

“We are calling on police to leave no stone unturned in their search for these killers who have robbed us of a hardworking and a dedicated healthcare worker. May her soul rest in peace,” MEC Nomakhosazana Meth.

The department of health sent senior officials to the family of the slain nurse to convey sympathy and support from the department.
