A twenty-two-year-old man from Bethelsdorp, Gqeberha has been arrested in relation to a murder of a five year old girl. On Thursday 11 August, it was reported that a young girl was shot dead by her cousin a boy who is only six years old. It is believed that the two together with their friend a boy also six years of age were playing inside a house at Extension 31 Bethelsdorp.
It was unfortunate that the young girl was mistakenly shot in the head by her cousin while they were playing. The girl was rushed to the nearby hospital by ambulance, unfortunately, she died at the hospital. When police arrived at the scene they could not find the murder weapon, a 38 revolver.
The investigation team from the Department of South African Police Service in Eastern Cape together with the Anti-Gang Unit, conducted a thorough investigation which resulted in the arrest of a twenty two year old man in possession of a murder weapon. After following some leads the members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested the suspect a Cleary Park, and has been charged for defeating the ends of justice. The revolver which was used as a murder weapon, was found in an open area between Extension 21 and 31 embedded in a water pipe.
A charge of culpable homicide has been opened and the charge for Firearms Control Act is has been also opened, the investigation is ongoing.
