The Maluti Regional Court in Qonce, Eastern Cape gave a 40-year-old rapist a life sentence for raping a 45-year-old disabled woman in her home in October 2021.
The victim, a disabled woman, was put in a terrible and vulnerable situation after the accused, Simpiwe Kwababa stormed into her home and sexually assaulted her on Thursday, October 28, 2021, according to Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli’s testimony.
“The sentence comes after oral and forensic evidence connected to Khwababa to the crime. The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment on the charge of rape”, said Warrant Officer Nkohli.
Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, the Provincial Commissioner for the Eastern Cape, has also welcomed the rapist’s sentencing.
“Sentences such as this motivates and assists towards rebuilding confidence of our communities in the justice system. This sentence will also serve as a deterrent to those who think committing crime is the way to go”, said Lt Gen Mene.
