The minister made a few bold statements during his speech that the construction work will create approximately eight thousand direct full employment, with a wage bill of roughly seven hundred and fifty million rands (R750m) and between 21,300 and twenty-eight thousand one hundred 28,100 indirect jobs.
The bridge has created over one thousand new jobs in the region and over two thousand employment secondary industry job opportunities. “There are five projects that SANRAL canceled a tender for to address amongst other issues, an issue of Local Economic Spinoff and Local SMMEs incorporation,” he said. He added that the appointment for those projects has been concluded.
King Thahle from Lambasi made a vow and partnership, and commitment between the native chiefs and the government that he will make sure that the project of building the Msikaba Bridge and Mthentu Bridge becomes a success.
Meanwhile, The Mayor of Ingquza Hill Local Municipality Cllr. P.N. Pepping thanked the Minister of Transport because of the contribution that SANRAL has made in trying to meet with other stages of government in fixing the road R61. With the Minister of Transports’ permission, she further asked for SANRAL to let them take this project and fix the R61 road.
