Everything is ready for proceedings as the class of 2022 sit for their final exams. On Monday the 31st of October, the National Senior Certificate exams kick into high gear.

In a media brief on Sunday, 30 October 2022, Basic Education Minister Agie Motshekga spoke on the state of the department’s readiness.

The minister said this year was faced with challenges.

“This has also been a challenging year as we saw the return to normalcy following the difficulties that we experienced battling Covid-19. For the first time since 2020 our learners went back to school without having to wear masks or observe social distancing”, said Motshekga.

The Grade 12 learners are expected to write English Paper 1 on Monday. It is believed that last week they had written some of the smaller question papers including Computer Applications Technology Paper 1 Practical.

The Basic Education Minister said security measures had been stepped up to ensure that no exam papers get leaked.

“We have gone to great lengths to ensure that the examinations happen with no irregularities. DBE has stepped up it’s security across all points in the question paper chain based on continuous review of all examination processes”, said Motshekga.

It has been reported that earlier the Eastern Cape Department of Education said learners across the province has signed a pledge commiting themselves that they will not engage in any irregular behavior during the writing of their exams.

Provincial Department spokesperson Mali Mtima said such behavior could compromise the credibility of the exams and results process.

According to Mtima the department has done all they can do to prepare the 2022 Grade 12 learners for their final exams.
