EC South African Youth Council

On 19 October 2022, the Eastern Cape South Africa Youth Council (EC SAYC) released a media statement on the Post Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting that was held from 14th to the 16th of October 2022 at Coral on Belgravia in East London.

The meeting reflected on youth development and the challenges on youths’ heavy consumption in substances such as drugs and alcohol as well as mental health in the Eastern Cape youth. The meeting also highlighted the numerous socio-politico-economic challenges faced by the youth in Eastern Cape, advising the Youth Council to strengthen the fight for youth development “through lobbying and advocating for our government to do more to address these challenges”.

Amongst all that was mentioned, the meeting underlined SAYC to “formally form part of oversight bodies and committees of Isiqalo Youth Fund”. The report states that the reason behind this suggestion is “ensuring that the right people are receiving the fund and to see to that proper monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are deployed in assisting beneficiaries sustain their businesses for a minimum of 24 months post the grant”.

In regards to the organizational matters raised in the meeting,

“the PEC meeting endorsed the regional Assembly of Amathole region and its leadership as led by Mr Tyatyaza and Ms Tengile as the Chairperson and Secretary respectively. The PEC meeting also endorsed the regional Assembly of O.R Tambo region and the leadership as led by Ms Ngongo and Mr Madida as chairperson and secretary respectively”.

A slight reshuffle in the structures was also conducted in the Nelson Mandela Region and Sarah Baartman.

The report closes off with announcing that regions will be conducting municipal bi-elections and the youth is encouraged to participate in these elections.
