Earlier this year the African National Congress in Eastern Cape had a conference in the Dr WB Rubusana region where new structure was elected. Some members of the ANC in the region were not satisfied about the outcomes of the conference and challenged the validity of Rubusana Regional Conference and the branches that have attended the conference in court, the purpose of the challenge was to have the region nullified.

The East London Court rulled in favor of the disgruntled ANC members and the Buffalo City Metro’s ANC Dr WB Rubusana region has been nullified. This could have a huge impact to the provincial elective conference where Premier and ANC Provincial chair Oscar Lubabalo Mabuyane emerged victorious.

Ondela Sokomani led the group that took legal route said, on Tuesday 04 October the court nullified and set aside participation of 37 branches from Rubusana in regional and provincial gatherings.

Sokomani also wrote the ANC secretary general Paul Mashatile, asking the outcomes of the provincial conference to be nullified, citing irregularities in the lead up to the congress. He also added that the ruling would affect credentials and outcomes of both regional and provincial conferences.

Sokomani concluded, “The regional structure is gone.”

Premier Oscar Mabuyane was re-elected as provincial chair in May amid the court case defeating the former provincial treasurer Babalo Madikizela.
