The good and bad side of technology

We cannot deny the fact that technology is a critical component of our world nowadays, tech tools play an enormous role in our lives. We use it for communication, manufacturing, managing time, education and many more things. However, there is nothing that has only good side no matter how incredible it is.

The good

Let’s kick this off with the benefits that technology offers us. It is no secret that we are more than ever connected with our family, friends and coworkers; they are all just a call, text, video call or email away. Technology allows us to keep working even if we are at home, it grants us an access to shop online, study, make appointments to doctors and it keeps us updated with current events. There’s improvement in transport and easy banking.

It helps students to watch lecture, do online presentations, complete their assignments and they can earn their degrees from the comfort of their homes. Students can now enroll into online programs.

The ability to advertise online provides companies with a huge advantage. With the right strategy you can expose your brand internationally on the web by creating a website to provide consumers with content about your brand. It also make it easy for companies to advertise vacancies and for people to apply for those vacancies.

The Bad

Just like how William Shakespeare said, too much of a good thing is a bad thing. We cannot run away from the fact that technology is incredible but it can be bad as well. Like sleep deprivation, we spend a lot of time our devices even at night we are always on our phones or on televisions and laptops watching movies; we do not give ourselves enough time to rest. Gadgets like phone, computers tablets can hold a person’s attention for a long time and this may lead to eyestrain.

There are fake news that people spread about others on social media platforms. The occurrence of bullying and cyber attacks and other indignities are all common sides of cyberspace. These can lead to depression, addiction, anxiety and other mental disorders.

People commit suicides because of being body shamed on social media. We have read news about children commiting suicide because of videos of them being bullied becoming viral on social media.

It can cause lack of attention, low creativity and poor academic performance to children.

We should all set something certain boundaries when it comes to technology like stop using phone during mealtimes or when exercising.Tell children how much time they are allowed to spend on video games and phones.
