Thursday 08 September in East London, Police Minister Bheki Cele said police had to start an investigation in the murder case of Namhla Mtwa. This comes after the lead investigator was threatened.

The lead investigator in the murder case who was deployed from Limpopo to Mthatha, had to be removed from the case after she received death threats. Namhla Mtwa was shot nine times outside her home early this year.

“This case is more complex than we initially thought, we deployed a senior police from Limpopo but again we have to pull her out of the case as she received death threats. We have to deploy a new lead investigator investigations are going on but this is a sensitive matter I cannot divulge information at the moment,” Minister Bheki Cele.

Bheki Cele concluded by saying that the death threats against the police team that is working on the case will not stop them to continue investigating the murder of Mtwa

Thus far no arrests have been made however, police claim to have solid grounds on this case
