After losing to premier Oscar Mabuyane at the Eastern Cape Provincial elective conference in May  Babalo Madikizela promised to leave politics and go back to business.

It is reported that he has finally handed in his resignation.

It is said that this was announced by Premier Oscar Mabuyane in the Executive Committee and that the Premier has appointed MEC Nqatha as the acting MEC as of the 1st of August 2022
