South Africa is faced with a new pandemic- tavern deaths; following several tavern deaths just weeks apart. Families mourn deaths of 2 victims who were shot sitting outside Ga-Rankuwa tavern, northwest of Pretoria. The drive by shooting took place just before midnight on Friday.
The death toll of tavern deaths reported rises and is estimated to be at 45 deaths nationally. This fatal incident happens just weeks after the eNyobeni tavern incident that resulted in 21 children pronounced dead including 16 who were shot dead at Madlalose tavern in Soweto, 2 at Mputlane’s Inn and 4 more shot dead at Mntambo’s Tavern in just over one month.
Crime statistics have not released official figures of the national tavern deaths.
The random shooting left 7 wounded and 2 dead.
Two cases of murder and seven attempted murder cases are said to have been since opened.
The shooters are said to have been driving a silver Volkswagen polo vehicle. Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the shooters have not yet been caught and urges citizens with information to report to their nearest police station.
