Alliance partners gathered at the Dr WB Rubusana 5th Regional Conference to deliver strong messages of support. Leaders from SANCO, COSATU and the SACP said renewal must anchor every effort of the ANC in the OR Tambo Region.
They said the region stands at a critical moment. Communities want trust restored. They want leadership that listens and acts. As a result, speakers called for a united approach that strengthens structures and improves service delivery.
Renewal Must Serve the People
Speakers emphasised that renewal is not an internal clean-up project. It is a responsibility to become more effective public servants. They said delegates must focus on accountability, discipline and visible community work.
Leaders reminded the conference that the Freedom Charter still guides their work. They repeated two central principles:
- The people shall govern.
- The people shall share in the country’s wealth.
They said these principles demand honest leadership and programs that improve daily life in villages, towns and townships across OR Tambo.
Calls for Stronger Organisational Unity
Alliance partners said unity cannot be symbolic. It must be practical and rooted in real cooperation. They urged branches and regional structures to work together, reduce divisions and prioritise development plans that respond to local needs.
In addition, they outlined the importance of rebuilding public confidence. They warned that broken trust makes it harder for communities to support regional programmes. Delegates were urged to strengthen communication, improve transparency and stay present on the ground.
Economic Growth and Local Opportunities
The conference also focused on regional economic development. Leaders said economic renewal must open opportunities for young people, workers and small businesses. They called for inclusive growth that supports rural communities and reduces long-standing inequalities.
Speakers added that economic plans should not stay on paper. They must translate into action that improves households and restores hope.
A Shared Commitment to the Future
The messages of support closed with a united call to reposition the ANC as a transformative force in the region. Leaders said the organisation must return to its people-centred roots and deliver programmes that change daily living conditions.
They urged delegates to lead with discipline and humility. They said renewal becomes real only when communities feel its impact.
As the conference continued, delegates agreed that the path forward requires unity, accountability and a renewed commitment to service. The spirit of the Freedom Charter, they said, remains the compass for building a stronger OR Tambo Region.
