Amathole District Municipality’s Engineering Department held a two-day strategic planning session on 3 December at the Summit Conference Centre. The gathering brought together senior officials, Amatola Water Board, and Yolula Technologies to realign plans for 2025. The session focused on improving water and sanitation delivery across the district.
What Happened
The department reviewed its priorities and assessed progress made during the current cycle. In addition, leaders examined gaps that continue to hinder service delivery.
Director Nombasa Msebi opened the session with a call for practical, action-driven planning. She urged the team to use the limited resources effectively and place vital infrastructure at the centre of the strategy.
“We need clear and realistic targets,” she said. “Everyone here plays a role in strengthening this institution.”
Stakeholders also reflected on earlier milestones and identified key drivers needed to speed up water and sanitation projects.
Official Response
Municipal Manager Dr Bhekisisa Mthembu praised the department for its project management performance. He noted that the absence of budget rollovers signals strong compliance and disciplined spending.
Dr Mthembu also emphasised the municipality’s tough stance on accountability.
“No work means contract termination,” he said, highlighting the institution’s commitment to consistent delivery.
Partners from Amatola Water Board and Yolula Technologies shared technical insights to support long-term planning and improve operational efficiency.
Community Impact
The session strengthened the department’s commitment to reliable water services. Officials said improved planning will help communities see real progress on the ground.
Residents are expected to benefit from streamlined operations, better coordination, and stronger oversight.
The department also acknowledged the need for constant communication so that communities can track developments and understand how internal work translates into service improvements.
