The Department of Agriculture honoured Disability Month with a hands-on visit to Nomzamo Special School. Officials donated vegetable seedlings, gardening tools and indigenous trees. The initiative aims to strengthen food security and promote greening in schools that support learners with disabilities.
The activity is part of the Department’s long-term legacy programmes. Officials said the work shows their commitment to practical support that improves daily life for vulnerable groups.
Learners Join Practical Planting Demo
The extension and advisory services unit led a full demonstration. Officials showed learners, teachers and parents how to plant vegetables and care for young trees. They also explained basic garden management and shared tips to maintain healthy soil.

Participants said the lessons were empowering. Many joined the demonstration with excitement and asked questions throughout.
School Community Welcomes the Initiative
The donation was warmly received by the school community. Staff, parents and learners said the support will help grow fresh produce and teach lifelong skills.
Teachers added that the new tools and seedlings will strengthen the school’s existing gardening activities.
