Nyandeni Local Municipality handed over the construction site for a new community hall in Lukhanyisweni Village, Ward 9, earlier today. The project forms part of the municipality’s infrastructure rollout. Local youth are expected to benefit through new job opportunities.
What Happened
The municipal Infrastructure Unit officially introduced Mafusi Projects (Pty) Ltd as the appointed contractor. The build will run for eight months.
In addition, the project aims to strengthen community access to safe meeting spaces and improve public facilities in the area. Residents welcomed the news and expressed hope for steady progress.
Official Response
Municipal officials said the hall will support social programmes, meetings, and youth activities.
“We are committed to delivering facilities that uplift our communities,” one official said. “This hall will give Lukhanyisweni a shared space for growth and unity.”
They also highlighted the project’s employment opportunities for local young people.
Community Impact
The scope of work includes:
- Perimeter fencing
- Boardroom
- Kitchen
- Cleaners’ room
- Male and female ablution block
- Electrification
- Water tanks and parking area
As a result, the village will gain a modern, functional centre that supports events and service delivery. Meanwhile, the municipality says more infrastructure upgrades are planned for rural wards.
