Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality welcomed endurance athlete and philanthropist Jono Kruger on 25 November 2025 after his long-distance “Vula Mdantsane Run” from Cape Town to East London. The Executive Mayor praised Kruger’s arrival as both a sporting milestone and a powerful call for community upliftment.

What Happened

Jono Kruger completed his multi-province run aimed at promoting the Vula Mdantsane initiative, which focuses on opening opportunities for young people and spotlight Mdantsane’s potential. His journey connected several communities along the route, drawing attention to the power of purpose-driven action.

“Jono, today we celebrate more than your arrival at the finish line. We celebrate the spirit behind your mission,” the Executive Mayor said.

Buffalo City Metro emphasised that Kruger’s endurance mirrors the strength and unity of its residents. The Executive Mayor stated that the Metro is proud to host him, adding that his run aligns with the City’s commitment to building a healthier and socially empowered society.

“It reminds us that progress is measured not only in policies and programmes, but also in people who choose to act, to serve, and to lead by example,” the Mayor said.
She also thanked partners and supporters who contributed to the initiative, stressing the importance of collaboration.

“Your endurance symbolizes the strength of our people. Your courage symbolizes the hope of our youth,” the Mayor added.
