MEC Siphokazi Lusithi toured the nearly completed Mqanduli Office Precinct on Tuesday, joined by DPWI Head of Department Phucuka Penxa and a technical delegation. The state-of-the-art government complex now stands at 95% completion, with the official handover expected soon.
What Happened
During the walkabout, MEC Lusithi and the department’s leadership inspected the progress of the multimillion-rand precinct. The visit highlighted the final stages of construction, which include internal fittings, finishing work, and compliance checks ahead of occupation.
Media houses were later briefed on the construction process, cost-management strategies, and projected timelines. The department emphasised that the project remains on track and continues to meet strict quality standards.
Official Response
MEC Lusithi said the precinct reflects government’s intention to expand quality infrastructure into rural towns. She noted that the province saved significantly by using departmental in-house teams rather than outsourcing every phase.
“This project symbolises our commitment to bring infrastructure development where it matters most, especially in our rural towns. The most powerful achievement here is the cost-saving made possible by our in-house staff,” Lusithi said.
HOD Penxa also praised the workforce, saying the precinct will improve service delivery once operational.
Community Impact
Residents say the new precinct brings hope for improved access to government services and future economic activity in Mqanduli. Local businesses have already benefited through subcontracting and short-term employment during construction.
Community leaders added that the project signals a renewed focus on developing small towns across King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality.
