The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) has completed its oversight visit to major service delivery projects across King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality. The checks, tied to the 2024/25 Annual Report, ran through Mqanduli, Coffee Bay, and Mthatha. The Committee plans to table its recommendations before Council by March 2026.
What Happened
MPAC, led by Chairperson Councillor Makhosandile Majeke, moved through Mqanduli and Coffee Bay before heading to Mthatha. The team inspected roads, parks, cemeteries, spaza shops, co-operatives involved in sewing, beadwork, and farming, and areas affected by illegal dumping.
Majeke said, “We want every project to meet the standard our communities deserve. Oversight helps us see the real picture on the ground.”
The tour covered all 37 wards, giving the Committee a fuller view of progress and challenges.
Official Response
Municipal officials noted that the oversight visit supports transparency and strengthens accountability. They also stressed that the findings will help refine project rollout.
According to Majeke, “We owe residents consistent, reliable, and quality services. Our mandate requires that we act quickly when we find gaps.”
Furthermore, the Committee confirmed that it will compile a detailed report for Council before the end of March 2026.
Community Impact
Residents in several wards welcomed the visits, hoping they will speed up stalled projects and improve maintenance in high-use areas. Community members also raised concerns about illegal dumping, damaged access roads, and the need for stronger support for co-ops.
Because of the site checks, locals expect clearer communication from the Municipality and faster action on unresolved issues.
