Amajimbos bowed out of the FIFA U17 Men’s World Cup after a 3–0 defeat to Japan on 15 November 2025 at the Aspire Zone Complex in Doha. What Happened?
South Africa started strongly and pushed Japan in a fast first half. Neo Bohloko and Selwyn Stevens both came close to scoring, yet the Japanese goalkeeper denied them each time. With the match goalless at halftime, momentum shifted.
Japan struck in the 48th minute through Hiroto Asada. Then Minato Yoshida doubled the lead in the 59th minute. Shota Fujii sealed the result in the 72nd minute, ending South Africa’s hopes of a deeper run.
The match also stood out for the performance of Amajimbos goalkeeper Lwandiso Radebe, who made several crucial saves.

Coach Vela Khumalo reflected on the mixed performance with honesty and pride.
“It was a game of two halves. We should have taken the chances we created, but we take the lessons,” he said.
“The boys showed character. I think their goalkeeper was the man of the match. We take a bow and say thank you to South Africans for the support.”
Khumalo added that the experience on key areas for improvement, including tactical discipline and decision-making under pressure.
